MAHALE THROUGH KATAVI
Day 1: Arusha to Mahale Via Katavi National Park.
Morning you will be met by guide who will transfer you to Arusha Airport, then board your flight to Katavi National Park, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to Katuma Bush Lodge during lunch time then after lunch you will go for afternoon game drive. Katavi National Park is the ultimate off the beaten track safari adventure. With only a few hundred visitors per year Katavi provides thrilling game viewing opportunities. The size of the herds has to be seen to be believed and you are always aware that you are in one of the last remaining wild places on earth. Your accommodation at Katuma Bush Lodge is the perfect place to return after an action packed game drive. Enjoy a dip in the swimming pool and enjoy the stunning views over Katavi while sipping on a sundowner before your evening meal. Overnight at Katuma Bush Lodge.
Day 2 and 3: Katavi National Park.hippo at Katavi
Next 2 days you will explore this remote and untouched national park with bush walks and game drives. Prove why Katavi is one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa. The valleys and plains around the camp are teeming with wildlife and offer large concentrations of crocodile and hippo. Hippopotamus mass along the creeks, and elephant shake fruit from the great Borassus Palms. Observe some of the largest herds of Buffalo on earth, perhaps with Lion, Hyena and Leopard in pursuit. Katavi offers spectacular scenery and a wild and traditional safari experience. Indulge and relax at Katuma Bush Lodge.
Day 4: Visit Mahale Mountains National Park.
After breakfast transfer to Katavi airstrip and fly to Mahale Mountains National Park. You will land on the airstrip, then transferred by traditional dhow boat to your luxury accommodation at the stunning Kungwe Beach Lodge. The dhow cruise takes about 1.5 hours and is a magical entrance to the world of Mahale. The warmly staff will welcome you and you will be served lunch at the lodge. After lunch you will enjoy a Chimp trek into the pristine Mahale Mountain jungle. Overnight at Kungwe Beach Lodge.
Day 5 and 7: Mahale National Park.
For the next 3 days you will be served a delicious breakfast at the lodge. After finishing breakfast you will trek the habituated ‘M’ group of Chimpanzees as they groom, squabble and delight you with their animated antics. The ‘M’ (Mimikire) troop is numbered at approximately 56 Chimps. During your hike to the chimps you will find yourself immersed in the sights and sounds of Mahale. You will return to Kungwe Beach Lodge to have lunch. In the afternoon you are free to enjoy the activities offered by the lodge – these include boat safaris, kayaking, snorkeling and fishing (fishing is available at $85pp/per trip). The section of Lake Tanganyika that Kungwe Beach occupies has some of the best freshwater fishing in Tanzania. Here, you may expect to catch Nile perch and Yellow Belly to name a few. In the afternoon relax and sip a sundowner while being entertained by the baboons that frequently visit beach area. Overnight at Kungwe Beach Lodge.
Day 8: Travel from Mahale to Arusha.
On your last day you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast and will sadly bid Kungwe Beach Resort goodbye as we make our way back to the Mahale Airstrip. You may wish to add one of our optional activities as your next destination. Maybe a gorilla trek, or you may just like to relax and enjoy a beach break in Zanzibar. The dhow cruise takes about 1.5 hours and you will have good time to take your last photos of this paradise. Enjoy an aerial perspective of Mahale as you fly over the mountains and head back to your safari destination.
